Free iPhone offer? Here are some of the classic phishing lures of Black Friday

People look forward to Black Friday because it is the chance to buy expensive things at a much lower cost. And cybercriminals know this. This is why phishing attacks still work in this discount season.

But there are Black Friday lures that insist on showing up, and taking victims. We have separated some of the most recurrent ones.

1. Free gift cards

The promise is that consumers will win free gift cards from expensive brands if they fill out the registration forms, posted on a fake website.

The user receives a registration document to fill out. But, the document is malicious and contains a file that runs malware that steals information such as passwords and online credentials

2. Free iPhone Offer

The consumer receives a fake email from Apple, with a link for them to enter a Black Friday sweepstakes and win a free iPhone. The user needs to enter his personally identifiable information on the fake form.

It is common for new phishing campaigns to appear on Black Friday, offering the latest model on the market. A variation of this attack includes campaigns with other well-known brands on the market, such as Samsung.

3. 60% discount on laptops

Cybercriminals use fake websites of well-known stores to lure people with great prices on expensive electronics such as laptops.

To access one of these amazing offers, users are required to provide a large amount of personal information, including credit card information.

In some cases, the scammer sends e-mails with a fake purchase confirmation request number, so that the user does not suspect that he has been scammed.

4. Michael Kors handbags with 80% discount

Female users receive a phishing email, with a link advertising the discount on handbags. When they click on it, they are taken to a fake Michael Kors website, where they find irresistible prices. The purchase is made, but it is all just a scam.

Be aware: the scams are not limited to Black Friday.

Phishing scams also occur on Cyber Monday, a Monday dedicated to promotions of electronics and computer devices. As the holiday season approaches, cybercriminals remain active.
