The digital transformation of Cariacica, in the metropolitan region of Vitória, Espírito Santo, a municipality with a population of approximately 380,000 inhabitants, began about five years ago.

Today, there are already 7,000 users of the corporate network in places such as schools, health clinics, and the city's administrative headquarters, and about 170 points in the city with public Wi-Fi coverage, reaching thousands of citizens. In April 2020, when the novelty was implemented, Cariacica City Hall registered a record number of accesses to its Wi-Fi network: 32 million. An increase of 300% compared to March. In May, the number reached 40 million.
The free connectivity service offered to citizens is part of a digitalization strategy of municipal bodies that has been implemented in recent years with the aim of improving the quality of services provided, and that has proven to be more necessary than ever.

THE SOLUTION
According to Michel Silva, Undersecretary of Information Technology of Cariacica, the idea of the project was not only to develop a modern wireless network, but a consistent long-term project, based on a secure, robust, simple to manage network that allows integration of resources. Cariacica's network includes connected computers, Smart TVs, printers, among other mobile and IoT devices, user segmentation to provide security, through ClearPass, and data analysis tools, a feature still little used by Brazilian municipalities.
"Data analysis is a valuable tool for developing social and health policies," explains Michel. "We have citizen demands to meet, and in a municipality like ours, which registers the lowest per capita income in the state, we need to be creative and precise. Investing in technology is not perfumery, nor can it only consider price; it is what we have been evaluating, and the results show that we are on the right track," he says.

INITIATIVES
João Paulo Barros, Executive Director of ISH, who contributed to the implementation of the network with technologies from partner Aruba, highlights initiatives that result in sustainability and savings for the municipality. "250,000 digital letters were issued through e-Ciof since 2015, with zero paper and printing consumption, no displacements for document delivery, and all of this 100% secure, manageable and inviolable, with its own authentication key and encryption," he points out.
